About Us

PSRC supports the breeding and training of pure bred retrievers recognized by The American Kennel Club (AKC) to be used in the conservation of waterfowl and upland birds. This accomplished by retrieving and placing in the bag all fallen game birds.
The dogs loved, owned and trained by our club members include Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Curly Coated Retrievers, Flat Coat Retrievers, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers , Chesapeake Bay Retrievers , Poodles and Munsterlanders. Our members • Test and title in all venues at all levels.
We encourage participation from those interested in learning about conservation before they acquire their future partner.

Who We Are

The Puget Sound Retriever Club is a group of Retriever Enthusiasts who are  dedicated to the conservation of game through the use of trained retrievers.  We  are united by our commitment to retriever sporting events like Field Trials and  Hunt Tests. It is our universal goal to urge and assist Club members to train  their retrievers to proficiently retrieve fallen game.

Our History

In 1950 a group of duck hunters and retriever owners founded Puget Sound Retriever Club. They received access from Sam Theler to utilize his property known as the Belfair Flats. The club used the property to train their retrievers and also to hunt the waterfowl present there. The club built dikes that created several freshwater ponds. In 1952 the club conducted a Licensed American Kennel Club Field Trial semi-annually on the "flats" and at McKnight's Pond. In 1989, PSRC held a Hunting Retriever Field Test Licensed by the North American Hunting Retriever Association. Currently the club leases property near the Dewatto River that is used for training and various events. We support the breeding and training of pure bred retrievers to be used in the conservation of waterfowl and upland birds. This accomplished by retrieving and placing in the bag all fallen game birds.
